Modem Q and A
Having Problems Connecting With Your 56k Modem?
Have you recently installed a 56k modem only to find your connection is slower than before? Our
Customer Support Team has put together this quick, user-friendly troubleshooting guide to
assist you in trying to improve your connection speed. Please follow the suggestions in
order.
- Make sure your modem has the latest drivers installed
Even though you may have just purchased and installed the modem, you may not have the latest
drivers installed in your machine. Most driver updates are found by going to your modem
manufaturer's web page and downloading the driver update from there.
- Make sure you are dialing the correct telephone number.
You need to ensure you are calling the correct number for your POP. If you aren't sure
what the correct telephone number is, you can click here.
- If you are using Windows 95, install Dial-Up Networking version 1.3.
You can go to the Microsoft Web site (www.microsoft.com)
and download DUN 1.3 from there.
- Enter two (2) commas (,,) after the telephone number.
Entering the two commas inserts a two-second pause between when our modem answers and your modem
starts the handshake process.
